“I hate to bring it up but you know, Fijian history is really important. My parents moved because of the coups that happened in Fiji. For reference, my family is Indo-Fijian and Indigenous Fijian but my dad’s side is fully Indo-Fijian. In 1987 the first coup in Fiji happened and my Dad was someone who had experienced violence in the coup.”

“I find their journey very brave, and I have a lot of views on America, it’s not my favorite place in the world. But I think that they accomplished what they wanted to accomplish here…On paper, they sent both their daughters to university, and they own a home, and we’re here. I’m alive and healthy, so is my sister, my parents are too and it really wasn’t easy. They came with no money, they came with no family.”
